Researcher

Onat Gunes is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Utrecht University, focusing on the political economy of energy transitions, public policy change, and sustainability transitions. His current research explores how policy, governance, and finance interact to shape renewable energy transitions, with a comparative focus on Turkey and the Netherlands, while also engaging with broader questions of sustainability transitions. He holds a BSc in Business Administration and an MSc in Social Policy from Middle East Technical University (METU), an MSc in International Business and Entrepreneurship from the University of Essex, and a PhD in Political Science and Public Administration from Ankara University, where his dissertation examined energy policy change through advocacy coalitions and historical institutional perspectives. With prior professional experience in the energy sector, he combines academic and practitioner insights to study how socio-technical transitions are shaped by governance structures, political economy dynamics, and long-term policy change.
